St. Nicholas
St. Nikolaos of Myra, often known as St. Nicholas, was a Christian saint who lived in the fourth century. He was a Turkish Bishop who was noted for his compassionate and generous nature. He was said to have left gifts in the shoes of children who had left them outside. This is where the holiday custom began. He was a genuine person, albeit the story has changed dramatically over time.
What St. Nicholas Really Looked Like
He was better known as Santa Claus, and he didn’t look anything like the man that comes to mind when you think of him. He had a deeper complexion and Middle Eastern features because he was Turkish. People in the West frequently believe that historical figures looked exactly like them. As you can see, this is far from the truth!
